TANGO VIVO 2006/2008
Pictures of a traditional tango from a modern and contemporary point of view mix with the power of a big tango band.
“…In a living theatre, we would each day approach the rehearsal putting yesterday’s discoveries to the test, ready to believe that the true play has once again escaped us. But the Deadly Theatre approaches the classics from the viewpoint that somewhere, someone has found out and defined how the play should be done. This is the running problem of what we loosely call style…”
From “The Empty Space: A Book About the Theatre: Deadly, Holy, Rough, Immediate” by Peter Brook (1968)
New tango, tango of today, alive tango… the encounter of tango, a popular music and universal, of incredible richness and the deepest couples’ dance of all time, and young and talented artists that review with passion and rigor some of their topics: the wait and the action, the intimacy and exposure, the pain and shine, the glamour, the possession and loss, the austerity and eloquence.
A stage who’s displaced point of view involves the spectator, observing what happens behind curtains at the same time as what happens on stage. Metaphor of the alley and the dance floor, of its origin and form, the hidden and the visible at the same time, as it happens in life, or in this metaphor of life that is tango.
A scenic re-elaboration of popular art in constant transformation and oral transmission from generation to generation comes with the French-Argentine company Unión Tanguera with a new intimate and at the same time spectacular creation, theatrically combative inside the tango convention. Tango Vivo revitalises the language of the genre taking ownership of a bold choreographic and musical repertoire.
